It’s true though. I am a firm believer in the power of ‘attraction marketing‘ and I know from experience that if I treat you well then you’re more likely to stick with me and so we’ll both benefit from the arrangement.

There’s so much BS out there at the moment.

If you follow my advice or read my words then I want to tell you that it’s okay to have honest emotions and yet still be successful.

There is a right way and a wrong way to do business. You’ve all seen the hype-y over-the-top spammy marketing lately across the web. It turns me off. And I know from talking to clients that I’m not alone in feeling like this.

But there is a better way.

You know that I’m a coach. Well I also have a coach. Her name is Rebecca Bardess.

Rebecca Bardess is the real deal and she has been at the top of her game since the 90’s unlike many of the so-called ‘guru’ types who’ve come and gone a hundred times over. Google her name and you’ll see what I mean.

So if you’ve always wanted to get better at online business but have been put off by the BS and hype then her brand new Indiepreneur Academy might be the right fit for you.

Now I appreciate that top-level coaching might not be within your reach right now but that’s what makes this all the more exciting.

Her Home Business Authority Blueprint course is now live for a tiny fraction of her coaching fees. And it’s only a small taste of the no BS training she has got planned for this BRAND NEW venture.

It’s LIVE TODAY so move fast – pop over and pick up some free training at the very least!

You’ll be glad you did.

I hope you found some value in this post. If so please share the love.

Life Isn’t Always Rainbows and Unicorns

Life Isn’t Always Rainbows and Unicorns

rainbows and unicorns

Life isn’t always rainbows and unicorns so when it is, savour the moment!

The photo showing the colour spectrum brought the phrase to mind after I was talking with a good marketing friend who’d just had some particularly undeserved bad luck.

It’s a phrase I think is relevant for times when people use it to dismiss the concepts of self-improvement and personal development.

People often dismiss those concepts as ‘airy fairy,’ ‘happy clappy’ or ‘wishy washy,’ when they don’t work out so good in real life – dismissed with the ‘evidence’ that real life isn’t all rainbows and unicorns.

Now, I can see why the ‘happy clappy’ image of the industry can put people off – you know the sort of thing – you’ll probably be picturing a presenter on stage, shouting wildly at the audience, probably getting them to hug 5 strangers around them.

Not everyone likes that kind of approach, and as it happens I’m not a massive fan of it personally.
But I can see how it breaks down some mental barriers and relaxes some people though.

Then the ‘wishy washy’ dismissal comes with the idea of ‘visualisation’ and ‘law of attraction‘.

People can view those concepts as something that ‘hippies’ do, spending their time bringing what they want into their lives simply by imagining it!

Hmm…

If that’s the attitude someone has of the field of personal development, it’s not surprising that it’s mentally put away in the ‘airy fairy nonsense’ box in the brain, categorised as not relevant to the day to day necessities of going out to earn a living.

Well, that’s why I say life really isn’t always rainbows and unicorns…!

When a tap floods your bathroom and the ceiling collapses, when a tyre on the car goes flat, when a train or plane is delayed, when someone is horrible to you for no reason – things like that happen in life.

No-one in the self-improvement field is saying they don’t!

What they ARE saying though, and obviously I’m saying it now, is that although unpleasant things will happen in life, so will the good stuff!

The hardships can be dealt with, and the good stuff can be enjoyed.
Dealing with the hardships can be made easier by the attitude we take into them, and this can be as simple as just accepting that ‘life’ happens – it will not be, and cannot be, perfect all the time.

The good stuff, therefore, must also be accepted and enjoyed in a similar way, they are two sides of the same coin.

There’s an important point to take further here – the balance can be tipped towards the good stuff.
Eliminating all the bad stuff cannot be done, and it’s foolish to try, but a lot of it CAN be eliminated.

If it’s a sudden unexpected nuisance then there might not be much we can do, but if it’s an ongoing, long term annoyance, then it’s possible you can do something about it.

What would you prefer instead? What have others done to achieve that alternative? What are YOU going to do about it?

And when it comes to earning a living, this can be decades of drudgery for a lot of people, but why?
Why does it have to be that way?

There is so much opportunity in the world today, and if you’re able to read this article, that opportunity is all around you right now.

It may involve hard work, in fact you can EXPECT it to be hard work, but that’s par for the course, and dealing with that is part of the attitude shift that might be needed.

So, in your life, what would you consider to be YOUR rainbows and unicorns?

Do you make enough room in your life to fully enjoy and appreciate them?

Do you allow yourself to enjoy them?

The hardships will come along, and the hardships will go, just as the good times will, so when it’s good, savour the moment!

Get Round The Corner THEN Find Out!

get round the corner

Worried About What’s Round The Corner?

The picture is of a lovely tree tunnel, and when I was thinking about writing an article about ‘what might be round the corner,’ it just seemed to fit!

When I talk with clients, there are many fears that stop them moving forwards, and the fear of change is right up there on the list!

Change is inevitable if we set out on the path of self improvement, personal development and goal achievement. That may seem obvious but it’s worth stating. Because in order for our results to change, our actions have to change, and in order for actions to change, attitude has to change.

That’s a lot of change, and it scares the living daylights out of a lot of people!

It’s so scary, because the changes will move life away from the present circumstances which we are used to, towards a life which we cannot predict. Yes, we can make educated guesses, and we may be fairly hopeful about some of the changes, but it could be argued that we can’t be *sure*.

And of course, some personal development or goal achievement moves will involve changes that might be real leaps in the dark, that we genuinely don’t know what will happen.

It might be a change in our circle of friends, or how family views us. It might mean a job change, or change in living arrangements. It might mean moving to a completely new area, or another country!

More likely it will involve a change in lifestyle habits, or a change from the safety net of a regular pay check to the heady and uncertain world of self-employment.

It could be it’s the change in ‘ourselves’ that the progress would bring that scares us the most.

So, having covered all the possible changes, and accepting that the unknown can be scary, it’s no surprise that it stops people moving forwards at all, right?

Well, no, it’s no surprise, but often it’s also used as an *excuse*, and it doesn’t have to be that way.

round the corner embrace the change

I have several ways of helping clients deal with the fear of change, and here’s something else that isn’t a surprise, I’ve going to cover 2 of them here today..!

Firstly, since fear of possible change is just that, fear of ‘possible‘ change, it might be helped by simply looking at it in a different way – that it might not be as bad as you think!

If we think back to how many times in our life we have said:

‘Oh, that wasn’t nearly as bad I thought it would be,’

it will be a LOT of times!

You’ve maybe seen the FEAR acronym before?

  • F = False
  • E = Expectations
  • A = Appearing
  • R = Real

Fears over the future simply turn out to be not as bad as we thought, more often than not. I’m not saying there will never be changes that we don’t like, but we just don’t need to let the fear of it hold us back.

It’s misplaced energy, and it’s wasted energy.

The second way I like to view the fear of change is to view it as an opportunity of change instead!

round the corner of opportunity

Remember, the particular fears I’m talking about come about when we look at personal development, improving our situation and setting goals. The whole point of us going through that process is to bring our lives more back in line with our passions, our joys, our soul.

If that’s the case, then the changes around the corner should be looked forward to rather than feared, because it means we are on the road to the more fulfilling life for ourselves – and so yes, it will be a change, but it will be a GOOD change!

And that way, we can take the attitude of ‘oh, I wonder what it will look like?’ with excitement rather than trepidation, because if we are directing the change, and we find we don’t like it, we can change it again!

That’s the key – if we let fear of change keep us stuck where we are, then we will still get buffeted by the circumstances that life has a habit of throwing at everyone. That’s just the way it is, and sometimes it’s not always pleasant. So instead of that, WHY NOT choose to be in control, to set changes in progress that WE WANT, that we have decided on and acted towards.

It’s a much better way to look at it, in my view.

So, look to your own path in life, whether tree-lined or not, then decide that whatever happens the journey along the way can be soaked up and enjoyed. Then if you’re worried because you’re not sure what’s around the corner – it might not be anywhere near as bad as you think. I’ve said it before, and I’ll finish by saying it again, get round there and find out!

I am an award-winning coach who loves to help clients overcome key challenges such as change management. Let me help you banish your fears so you can rock the rest of 2016!

Self Doubt Is Normal But Can Be Destructive

Self Doubt Is Normal, But Can Be Destructive

Ditch Self Doubt and Believe

As a Success Coach, I would say that self doubt is one of the most common problems faced by my clients when they first come to me.

Even the most confident person you can think of has more than an occasional bout of self doubt. The trick is to accept it for what it is but then get on with the business of being successful.

That’s how most successful entrepreneurs beat the scourge of self doubt.Consistent self doubt is as crippling as clinical depression and you may soon find yourself in a paralysing rut that’s difficult to extract yourself from.

As a rookie – or even a seasoned entrepreneur, you have a lot riding on your ability to stay focused. Your ultimate level of success and satisfaction with your chosen career depends on it.

It’s imperative that you develop the resilience to overcome self doubt you’re sure to experience and replace that negativity with other thoughts designed to build your confidence rather than bringing you down.

self doubt - don't give in to it

Self doubt can cause indecision and procrastination – both lethal detriments to your ultimate success. Yet, every challenge you face in your quest as an online entrepreneur brings with it recurrent doubts from the depths of your subconscious that may prevent you from overcoming the challenges and achieving your goals unless you can get a grip on them and see them for what they are – lies.

The higher you climb on the ladder of success, the more self doubt you’re likely to have.

So, what can you do to alleviate some of these obstacles and direct your energy in a more productive manner?

It begins in your mind and progresses to taking action as you learn you really are capable of facing and overcoming any challenges that come your way.

Firstly, you should know and be comforted that you’re not the only person (successful or not) who has suffered from self doubt along the way.

Acknowledging that others have felt as you do and gone on to become successful in spite of self doubt can alleviate your worries and help you get past the feelings more quickly. If you haven’t already set some personal and business goals for yourself, do it immediately.

It’s part of the plan that you’ll use as your map to the magic kingdom of success. It’s perfectly okay to set lofty, long-term goals. Just make sure you set attainable, short-term goals, too – so you can experience success in small increments along the way.

Short term goals are especially important because they provide continuous realisation that you are moving along quite nicely and are well on your way to meeting those long term goals. It lets you bask in the sunshine of the smaller wins, while waiting for the big payoff at the end.

Use the principle of S.M.A.R.T. goal setting;

Strategic – Measurable – Achievable – Realistic – Time Based

Some things will happen along the road to success which are beyond your control. It’s important that you accept this and avoid blaming yourself. In all of our lives, a little rain must fall. Be prepared in every way you can and press onward to your goals.

Success Without Risk

success without risk

Q: Does success come without risk?
A: No.

Ha! That answer doesn’t mess about, does it? Short, and to the point.
In fact, it couldn’t be any shorter, and although I obviously think it’s the right answer, I also think it’s worthwhile expanding on the reasons why.

To look further, I think we need to take two angles to come at it –
Firstly – what do we mean by ‘success’, and
Secondly –  to address the argument some people might make, that they can come up with lots of cases where some people certainly do have success without risk.

So, how do we define ‘success’?

Is it a certain level of career progression?

Is it fame and/or fortune?

How about a marriage and family?

Maybe a massive house or a flash car?

Of course it varies from person to person, and while it may seem easy to equate success to money, there are many other ways to describe it.

Have you heard of Earl Nightingale? He was the author of The Strangest Secret amongst many other books. His insights into success have transformed the lives of many people so much so that he’s been called ‘The Dean of Personal Development.’ One his most famous quotes is;

“success is the progressive realisation of a worthy idea.”

But you might say that if I’m leaving the definition of success down to the individual, it’s impossible for me to assess all the possible risks that might be involved.
Now, while that’s strictly speaking true, I also think it’s possible to say in the context of the original question, that the ‘risk’ can be narrowed down to the risk of it not working.

Going wrong.

Failure.

Following on from that, the consequences of failure, which generally involve loss of some sort – maybe loss of money, or maybe loss of other opportunities resulting from your commitment to the original goal.

In my experience, to get to a goal will always involve action, and since the results of action can’t always be guaranteed, there will be risk of failure.
The harder the goal, the more competition or the tighter the space at the top of the field, then the risk of failure only increases!

At the time of writing this post we’re into the first week of the Olympic Games. I’m a huge road cycling fanatic and so far the Olympics has been a brutal event for some of the top racers. Not many competitors will ever get an Olympic gold medal.

So, if you look at industries like sport, or acting or music for example, for every one person who achieves ‘success’ there will be hundreds and hundreds of ‘failures.’

Or are they..?

If we look back at Earl Nightingale’s definition of success, anyone pursuing a career in those tight fields is following their passions, chasing their dreams, and acting in a way in line with what makes them feel alive.

In addition to my online success coaching, I’m also a British Cycling Coach and I’ve known many aspiring cyclists who’ve never made it onto our news programs. But I would definitely ascribe Nightingale’s definition of success to most if not all of them. In fact I’ve known hundreds of clients whose lives have been enriched by following their life-long passions, no matter what the eventual results were on paper.

In that case they could be described as a success whatever the result, because they have taken on the risks, and one thing’s for sure – they won’t be the ones looking back and wondering ‘what if?’

I did mention earlier that it’s worth looking at the argument that some people do achieve success without risk – mostly because they are following the same path as their parents, so all the relevant doors are already wide open for them, and they can simply saunter through.

I disagree!

I have a couple of problems with that view! Yes, of course, if you’re born to a wealthy family like a certain Mr Trump perhaps, or a famous parent, then doors will indeed be open for you, but that brings its’ own pressures, and sometimes the risks for those offspring can actually be greater because they have had a bar set so high by others, a process in which they played no part.

The other problem I have with that view of ‘easy success for the lucky ones’ is that in those cases, they still have to take action to achieve ‘success’, and that action will still bring consequences that can bring success OR failure.

Action still required

So, is the route to success easier for some, with less risk? Possibly, but that’s applicable to a minority, if at all.

No, I think it’s better to focus on the majority, which most likely includes my humble self, and most likely includes you too!

Going after success will carry risk, I feel clear about that, and while it’s also clear that it’s up to the individual to decide whether the risk/reward ratio is worth it, my view is that taking the risk will almost always lead to a more fulfilled life, an enrichment of the soul, while not taking the risk leads to the opposite – a life unfulfilled, a soul that will be left wondering what might have been.

success

So, examine the risks by all means, then prepare for them as best you can, start taking action and focus on the success rather than the risk.

It can not only change your life, it can ‘transform’ it!

I hope you found some value in this post. If so please share the love.
