But there is a better way.

You know that I’m a coach. Well I also have a coach. Her name is Rebecca Bardess.

Rebecca Bardess is the real deal and she has been at the top of her game since the 90’s unlike many of the so-called ‘guru’ types who’ve come and gone a hundred times over. Google her name and you’ll see what I mean.

So if you’ve always wanted to get better at online business but have been put off by the BS and hype then her brand new Indiepreneur Academy might be the right fit for you.

Life Isn’t Always Rainbows and Unicorns

Life Isn’t Always Rainbows and Unicorns

rainbows and unicorns

Life isn’t always rainbows and unicorns so when it is, savour the moment!

The photo showing the colour spectrum brought the phrase to mind after I was talking with a good marketing friend who’d just had some particularly undeserved bad luck.

It’s a phrase I think is relevant for times when people use it to dismiss the concepts of self-improvement and personal development.

People often dismiss those concepts as ‘airy fairy,’ ‘happy clappy’ or ‘wishy washy,’ when they don’t work out so good in real life – dismissed with the ‘evidence’ that real life isn’t all rainbows and unicorns.

Now, I can see why the ‘happy clappy’ image of the industry can put people off – you know the sort of thing – you’ll probably be picturing a presenter on stage, shouting wildly at the audience, probably getting them to hug 5 strangers around them.

Not everyone likes that kind of approach, and as it happens I’m not a massive fan of it personally.
But I can see how it breaks down some mental barriers and relaxes some people though.

Then the ‘wishy washy’ dismissal comes with the idea of ‘visualisation’ and ‘law of attraction‘.

People can view those concepts as something that ‘hippies’ do, spending their time bringing what they want into their lives simply by imagining it!

Hmm…

If that’s the attitude someone has of the field of personal development, it’s not surprising that it’s mentally put away in the ‘airy fairy nonsense’ box in the brain, categorised as not relevant to the day to day necessities of going out to earn a living.

Well, that’s why I say life really isn’t always rainbows and unicorns…!

When a tap floods your bathroom and the ceiling collapses, when a tyre on the car goes flat, when a train or plane is delayed, when someone is horrible to you for no reason – things like that happen in life.

No-one in the self-improvement field is saying they don’t!

What they ARE saying though, and obviously I’m saying it now, is that although unpleasant things will happen in life, so will the good stuff!

The hardships can be dealt with, and the good stuff can be enjoyed.
Dealing with the hardships can be made easier by the attitude we take into them, and this can be as simple as just accepting that ‘life’ happens – it will not be, and cannot be, perfect all the time.

The good stuff, therefore, must also be accepted and enjoyed in a similar way, they are two sides of the same coin.

There’s an important point to take further here – the balance can be tipped towards the good stuff.
Eliminating all the bad stuff cannot be done, and it’s foolish to try, but a lot of it CAN be eliminated.

If it’s a sudden unexpected nuisance then there might not be much we can do, but if it’s an ongoing, long term annoyance, then it’s possible you can do something about it.

What would you prefer instead? What have others done to achieve that alternative? What are YOU going to do about it?

And when it comes to earning a living, this can be decades of drudgery for a lot of people, but why?
Why does it have to be that way?

There is so much opportunity in the world today, and if you’re able to read this article, that opportunity is all around you right now.

It may involve hard work, in fact you can EXPECT it to be hard work, but that’s par for the course, and dealing with that is part of the attitude shift that might be needed.

So, in your life, what would you consider to be YOUR rainbows and unicorns?

Do you make enough room in your life to fully enjoy and appreciate them?

Do you allow yourself to enjoy them?

The hardships will come along, and the hardships will go, just as the good times will, so when it’s good, savour the moment!

Get Round The Corner THEN Find Out!

get round the corner

Worried About What’s Round The Corner?

The picture is of a lovely tree tunnel, and when I was thinking about writing an article about ‘what might be round the corner,’ it just seemed to fit!

When I talk with clients, there are many fears that stop them moving forwards, and the fear of change is right up there on the list!

Change is inevitable if we set out on the path of self improvement, personal development and goal achievement. That may seem obvious but it’s worth stating. Because in order for our results to change, our actions have to change, and in order for actions to change, attitude has to change.

That’s a lot of change, and it scares the living daylights out of a lot of people!

It’s so scary, because the changes will move life away from the present circumstances which we are used to, towards a life which we cannot predict. Yes, we can make educated guesses, and we may be fairly hopeful about some of the changes, but it could be argued that we can’t be *sure*.

And of course, some personal development or goal achievement moves will involve changes that might be real leaps in the dark, that we genuinely don’t know what will happen.

It might be a change in our circle of friends, or how family views us. It might mean a job change, or change in living arrangements. It might mean moving to a completely new area, or another country!

More likely it will involve a change in lifestyle habits, or a change from the safety net of a regular pay check to the heady and uncertain world of self-employment.

It could be it’s the change in ‘ourselves’ that the progress would bring that scares us the most.

So, having covered all the possible changes, and accepting that the unknown can be scary, it’s no surprise that it stops people moving forwards at all, right?

Well, no, it’s no surprise, but often it’s also used as an *excuse*, and it doesn’t have to be that way.

round the corner embrace the change

I have several ways of helping clients deal with the fear of change, and here’s something else that isn’t a surprise, I’ve going to cover 2 of them here today..!

Firstly, since fear of possible change is just that, fear of ‘possible‘ change, it might be helped by simply looking at it in a different way – that it might not be as bad as you think!

If we think back to how many times in our life we have said:

‘Oh, that wasn’t nearly as bad I thought it would be,’

it will be a LOT of times!

You’ve maybe seen the FEAR acronym before?

  • F = False
  • E = Expectations
  • A = Appearing
  • R = Real

Fears over the future simply turn out to be not as bad as we thought, more often than not. I’m not saying there will never be changes that we don’t like, but we just don’t need to let the fear of it hold us back.

It’s misplaced energy, and it’s wasted energy.

The second way I like to view the fear of change is to view it as an opportunity of change instead!

round the corner of opportunity

Remember, the particular fears I’m talking about come about when we look at personal development, improving our situation and setting goals. The whole point of us going through that process is to bring our lives more back in line with our passions, our joys, our soul.

If that’s the case, then the changes around the corner should be looked forward to rather than feared, because it means we are on the road to the more fulfilling life for ourselves – and so yes, it will be a change, but it will be a GOOD change!

And that way, we can take the attitude of ‘oh, I wonder what it will look like?’ with excitement rather than trepidation, because if we are directing the change, and we find we don’t like it, we can change it again!

That’s the key – if we let fear of change keep us stuck where we are, then we will still get buffeted by the circumstances that life has a habit of throwing at everyone. That’s just the way it is, and sometimes it’s not always pleasant. So instead of that, WHY NOT choose to be in control, to set changes in progress that WE WANT, that we have decided on and acted towards.

It’s a much better way to look at it, in my view.

So, look to your own path in life, whether tree-lined or not, then decide that whatever happens the journey along the way can be soaked up and enjoyed. Then if you’re worried because you’re not sure what’s around the corner – it might not be anywhere near as bad as you think. I’ve said it before, and I’ll finish by saying it again, get round there and find out!

I am an award-winning coach who loves to help clients overcome key challenges such as change management. Let me help you banish your fears so you can rock the rest of 2016!

I hope you found some value in this post. If so please share the love.

Self Doubt Is Normal But Can Be Destructive

Self Doubt Is Normal, But Can Be Destructive

Ditch Self Doubt and Believe

As a Success Coach, I would say that self doubt is one of the most common problems faced by my clients when they first come to me.

Even the most confident person you can think of has more than an occasional bout of self doubt. The trick is to accept it for what it is but then get on with the business of being successful.

That’s how most successful entrepreneurs beat the scourge of self doubt.Consistent self doubt is as crippling as clinical depression and you may soon find yourself in a paralysing rut that’s difficult to extract yourself from.

As a rookie – or even a seasoned entrepreneur, you have a lot riding on your ability to stay focused. Your ultimate level of success and satisfaction with your chosen career depends on it.

It’s imperative that you develop the resilience to overcome self doubt you’re sure to experience and replace that negativity with other thoughts designed to build your confidence rather than bringing you down.

self doubt - don't give in to it

Self doubt can cause indecision and procrastination – both lethal detriments to your ultimate success. Yet, every challenge you face in your quest as an online entrepreneur brings with it recurrent doubts from the depths of your subconscious that may prevent you from overcoming the challenges and achieving your goals unless you can get a grip on them and see them for what they are – lies.

The higher you climb on the ladder of success, the more self doubt you’re likely to have.

So, what can you do to alleviate some of these obstacles and direct your energy in a more productive manner?

It begins in your mind and progresses to taking action as you learn you really are capable of facing and overcoming any challenges that come your way.

Firstly, you should know and be comforted that you’re not the only person (successful or not) who has suffered from self doubt along the way.

Acknowledging that others have felt as you do and gone on to become successful in spite of self doubt can alleviate your worries and help you get past the feelings more quickly. If you haven’t already set some personal and business goals for yourself, do it immediately.

It’s part of the plan that you’ll use as your map to the magic kingdom of success. It’s perfectly okay to set lofty, long-term goals. Just make sure you set attainable, short-term goals, too – so you can experience success in small increments along the way.

Short term goals are especially important because they provide continuous realisation that you are moving along quite nicely and are well on your way to meeting those long term goals. It lets you bask in the sunshine of the smaller wins, while waiting for the big payoff at the end.

Use the principle of S.M.A.R.T. goal setting;

Strategic – Measurable – Achievable – Realistic – Time Based

Some things will happen along the road to success which are beyond your control. It’s important that you accept this and avoid blaming yourself. In all of our lives, a little rain must fall. Be prepared in every way you can and press onward to your goals.

Success Without Risk

success without risk

Q: Does success come without risk?
A: No.

Ha! That answer doesn’t mess about, does it? Short, and to the point.
In fact, it couldn’t be any shorter, and although I obviously think it’s the right answer, I also think it’s worthwhile expanding on the reasons why.

To look further, I think we need to take two angles to come at it –
Firstly – what do we mean by ‘success’, and
Secondly –  to address the argument some people might make, that they can come up with lots of cases where some people certainly do have success without risk.

So, how do we define ‘success’?

Is it a certain level of career progression?

Is it fame and/or fortune?

How about a marriage and family?

Maybe a massive house or a flash car?

Of course it varies from person to person, and while it may seem easy to equate success to money, there are many other ways to describe it.

Have you heard of Earl Nightingale? He was the author of The Strangest Secret amongst many other books. His insights into success have transformed the lives of many people so much so that he’s been called ‘The Dean of Personal Development.’ One his most famous quotes is;

“success is the progressive realisation of a worthy idea.”

But you might say that if I’m leaving the definition of success down to the individual, it’s impossible for me to assess all the possible risks that might be involved.
Now, while that’s strictly speaking true, I also think it’s possible to say in the context of the original question, that the ‘risk’ can be narrowed down to the risk of it not working.

Going wrong.

Failure.

Following on from that, the consequences of failure, which generally involve loss of some sort – maybe loss of money, or maybe loss of other opportunities resulting from your commitment to the original goal.

In my experience, to get to a goal will always involve action, and since the results of action can’t always be guaranteed, there will be risk of failure.
The harder the goal, the more competition or the tighter the space at the top of the field, then the risk of failure only increases!

At the time of writing this post we’re into the first week of the Olympic Games. I’m a huge road cycling fanatic and so far the Olympics has been a brutal event for some of the top racers. Not many competitors will ever get an Olympic gold medal.

So, if you look at industries like sport, or acting or music for example, for every one person who achieves ‘success’ there will be hundreds and hundreds of ‘failures.’

Or are they..?

If we look back at Earl Nightingale’s definition of success, anyone pursuing a career in those tight fields is following their passions, chasing their dreams, and acting in a way in line with what makes them feel alive.

In addition to my online success coaching, I’m also a British Cycling Coach and I’ve known many aspiring cyclists who’ve never made it onto our news programs. But I would definitely ascribe Nightingale’s definition of success to most if not all of them. In fact I’ve known hundreds of clients whose lives have been enriched by following their life-long passions, no matter what the eventual results were on paper.

In that case they could be described as a success whatever the result, because they have taken on the risks, and one thing’s for sure – they won’t be the ones looking back and wondering ‘what if?’

I did mention earlier that it’s worth looking at the argument that some people do achieve success without risk – mostly because they are following the same path as their parents, so all the relevant doors are already wide open for them, and they can simply saunter through.

I disagree!

I have a couple of problems with that view! Yes, of course, if you’re born to a wealthy family like a certain Mr Trump perhaps, or a famous parent, then doors will indeed be open for you, but that brings its’ own pressures, and sometimes the risks for those offspring can actually be greater because they have had a bar set so high by others, a process in which they played no part.

The other problem I have with that view of ‘easy success for the lucky ones’ is that in those cases, they still have to take action to achieve ‘success’, and that action will still bring consequences that can bring success OR failure.

Action still required

So, is the route to success easier for some, with less risk? Possibly, but that’s applicable to a minority, if at all.

No, I think it’s better to focus on the majority, which most likely includes my humble self, and most likely includes you too!

Going after success will carry risk, I feel clear about that, and while it’s also clear that it’s up to the individual to decide whether the risk/reward ratio is worth it, my view is that taking the risk will almost always lead to a more fulfilled life, an enrichment of the soul, while not taking the risk leads to the opposite – a life unfulfilled, a soul that will be left wondering what might have been.

success

So, examine the risks by all means, then prepare for them as best you can, start taking action and focus on the success rather than the risk.

It can not only change your life, it can ‘transform’ it!

I hope you found some value in this post. If so please share the love.

Relax! Just Stop And Take In The View!

relax and take in the view

Having just spent the last three weeks on vacation, it wasn’t too hard to get me to relax and take in the view!

But with the Tour de France sadly over, and now back to my beautiful island, I’d been asked by one of my clients to share some more photos of my remote Scottish location on Facebook.

That got me thinking and so first I put together a little video slide show which you’ll soon see over on my page or my YouTube channel but secondly it reminded me of why we take a holiday and the importance of learning how to relax and appreciate what we have.

Stop and smell the coffee

‘Hang on,’ you might say, ‘Hang on just a cotton picking minute, isn’t this just ‘stop and smell the coffee’ from a different angle?’

Fair question, and here’s a fair answer – yep, it sure is, but that doesn’t make it any less valid!

We all know about ‘stop and smell the coffee,’ because we can relate to the idea of being too busy to appreciate things. We all know about it, and yet we rarely do anything about it!
That’s why I thought was well worth this little nudge, a wee reminder not only about the value of relaxation, but also the value of appreciation.

In our fast-paced and cynical world, these things are often thought of as luxuries, a frivolous waste of time.
In fact, not only are they NOT a waste of time, in my view they are essentials that we need to schedule time for.

Stop moaning and striving

It could be argued, (and I do), that the reason we don’t schedule time to relax, and we don’t fully appreciate what we have, is a double edged reason – firstly we are too busy moaning, and secondly we are too busy striving to get things done.

Striving is all well and good, but only up to a point, right?
If we are striving towards a goal, somewhere at the base of that goal will be a motivation of
freedom of some sort, but if the striving takes us away from soaking up and appreciating our abundance, isn’t that counter productive?

Moaning? Well, that’s not so good either, because moaning is just a mental way that we tell ourselves will make things different instead of taking action!

Wouldn’t it be better to do a lot less moaning, and combine that with deliberately setting time aside to relax, take a step back, slow down and fully look around to see what we already have around us right now?

Look at what you have

It could be a trip to the coast to watch the sunset paint colours across the sky as in my photo or it could be done right where you are – in fact – why not do it, do it right now…!

If you’re reading this, you’ll probably be online on a device of some sort.
That means you have the use of electricity and access to the internet, which is a wealth of knowledge unimaginable just a few short years ago.

  • Do you have good health?
  • Do you have a roof over your head?
  • Do you have food on the table?
  • Do you have the opportunity to earn?
  • Do you have clothes to keep you warm?

We often take these things for granted, and although it’s easy to do, we really should be aware of the abundance it all adds up to.

Live a life of abundance

If we tap into this idea, and start to view things in a more appreciative way, then the ripples
will, well, ripple, out across our life.
We’ll view other people differently, we’ll view our actions differently.

It really can be a game changer, because attitude change drives change of action,
and that’s what drives change of results.

So, that’s why I say we should relax sometimes and take in the view.
If you really have to schedule a specific time slot for it, then go ahead and schedule!
Don’t feel guilty about it, it’s not a guilty pleasure but an important ingredient to a fulfilled life.

Get outside

It can be done by taking a little trip outside – to the seaside, or the park, or the woods, to go somewhere to calmly soak up some joy. No matter how big a deadline I have, I always make time for a short walk along my wild Scottish beach. It’s great for calming everything down and for getting things in perspective.

If your circumstances don’t easily allow little trips out though, does that mean you can’t follow this idea?

No, not by a long shot.
It can also be done at any time, at any place, simply by opening up our mind to what is right in front of us right now. I can tell you it really works, and it feels great.

Go on. Try it. Relax and experience that feeling of abundance.

Keep Smiling!

Relax

PS:Having been away on vacation I haven’t missed getting cold called by telemarketers who pretend that they’re making ‘customer service’ calls trying sell me another TV or internet package. As I’m now into marketing myself, I shouldn’t be bothered by this and I do applaud their effort at times, but as a consumer, it’s usually just super annoying.

And that’s how many of your prospects feel who are constantly being harassed by network marketers about their “groundbreaking” opportunity.
Yes, harassed! And as I’m often on the receiving end of cold prospecting calls, I can totally relate to it. Which is why I LOVE attraction marketing. As a consumer, I’d much rather answer an ad, be the first one to initiate contact and see a sales presentation that I WANT to hear, instead of being bothered by something I may have no interest in.
Wouldn’t you? That pretty much sums up your prospects too.
Makes sense right? Good. You can relax!
Grab This and start getting prospects who WANT to see what you’ve got.

I Hate Monday – Is That Your Crowd?

If You Follow The ‘I Hate Mondays’ Crowd, You’re Following The Wrong Crowd!

I Hate Monday

Happy Monday to you all!

Like the picture? We get a lot of beautiful sunsets where I live!

The photo was taken on a Sunday evening. But even though I’m still on the third week of my summer vacation but it did have me thinking about the Monday morning feeling that follows Sundays for so many people.

We all get it, right?

That feeling of our shoulders sagging as we knuckle down to the trudge back into a new week, leaving the relaxation of the weekend behind. The media uses it, commuters use it, and you see it all over social media.

There’s a knowing smile of resignation as we all share the same bad feeling, that we’re all in it together.

So, we all get it, right?

Well, no actually…

There are many reasons why following this crowd mentality is bad for you, and equally there are good reasons for you thinking in different, better ways.

Think Different

We fall into joining in with the negativity, more often than not because we think it’s easier! What’s the point in being positive and cheerful when everyone else is moody and miserable? No-one wants to see that do they!

In fact, they do. Seeing someone cheerful makes you look at yourself being miserable, and ask why. It pushes the idea that you too can be cheerful – it offers a new crowd to follow!

The Monday morning blues are normally work related, and that’s because it’s a routine, a routine that may have been the same for *years*. It is understandable to develop a feeling of boredom, maybe even resentment, towards the Monday morning return to work, but this can be diminished by looking at it with a viewpoint of abundance.

If you get to go to work, how lucky are you! Think of all the people around the world that would give their right arm to be in your position. You probably have decent health, a comfortable home, clean clothes, food on the table, all things not available to millions upon millions.

Once you start to focus on that, your view of Monday morning changes.

Change Is Possible

If your Monday work trip is to do something you don’t like, or even hate, then change it! Obviously, that may not be as simple as it sounds, it could be really difficult, you may feel tied-in to your current situation but change *is* possible. I know – I’ve done it.

Once you start doing work that moves you towards your goal, your passions, your joys, then Monday mornings are welcomed – as it happens, Monday morning will stop being a ‘thing’ anyway once you are moving towards such goals.

So am I saying you need to turn into a happy clappy smiler on Monday morning, to get everyone else joining in..?

No, I’m not! Although you’re following the wrong crowd, you don’t need to be the start of a new crowd. Actually, that new crowd already exists, it just may be new to you, and you can just switch from the Monday morning crowd to the crowd that is moving towards goals that bring passion.

To tap into *that* crowd can be a revelation , and in fact, once you do it, the people around you will notice, and you may find them switching along with you. That’s great, the more the merrier, but convincing other people is not your priority here.

Your priority is to switch things for *you*.

Monday

I call it the ‘Monday morning’ feeling, but actually it could be called the Sunday evening feeling, because for many people, Monday starts to loom ever larger as Sunday wears on – how about even calling it the Sunday afternoon feeling!

You can see how the downbeat mood grows and takes over more and more of your life. You may think that the resigned smile on Monday is just the way it has to be, but it isn’t. It really isn’t. It’s bad for you, and it can be different.

You do it by switching your thought patterns around it, and backing that up with action.

Take Action

I took action several years ago and now I don’t ever work a traditional Monday to Friday routine. But often I actually enjoy a Monday because it’s the day I get to start a new project or really get my sleeves rolled up and get something done.

So feed off that energy and positivity around you – the internet allows us access to so many groups or books or videos that can not only set you on a positive path, but give you that lift when you need it. Even reading *this* blog post again when you feel the Monday morning feeling start, can be a gentle nudge to look at things differently.

Have a look at another blog link below and you’ll find a different crowd to follow. They’re such a positive, supportive and  fun bunch of marketers and Monday morning won’t ever look so bad again.

So, try it. Buckle up and get ready to leave that ‘I Hate Mondays’ crowd behind!

Keep Smiling!

PS:So we know that Success is rarely a straight line right?

But getting your business off the ground in the first place is the greatest challenge…there are so many forces weighing you down and keeping you from gaining upward momentum.
Even when you’re picking up speed and finally have enough lift to start climbing higher, there will be various challenges pulling and pushing you left and right, making it difficult to keep everything balanced and on track.
But…once you’ve reached “cruising altitude,” things get MUCH easier.
THIS will help you get to those dizzy heights…

Accepting Personal Responsibility

Accepting Personal Responsibility For Your Actions

– That’s A Game Changer Right There!

Accepting Personal Responsibility

When I talk with my clients, I often hear the same things being said over and over again.

And the most common things I hear are their reasons for not achieving goals:

  • ‘but it’s not my fault’
  • ‘yes I was going to but if only this,’ or ‘if only that!’

Basically, someone or something else’s fault.

It might be the economy, the government, your friends, your family, your background, your skin colour, your race, your sexuality, your gender, etc, etc.

Well, the one thing glaringly missing from that list is…YOU!

Yes, those reasons mentioned might indeed be barriers for a lot of people and I agree that to pretend they don’t exist would be naïve for sure.

But other people have achieved great things despite those barriers, so looking at YOU as a reason really should be taking centre stage.

If you look around you right now, as you read this, the circumstances around you are the result of choices you made.

That’s right – the choices YOU made. Thoughts you had, actions you took, choices you made.

Once you accept this often difficult concept, it can be a watershed moment, because once you understand that your previous choices shaped your present, you understand equally that your future will be shaped by, yes you guessed it, your choices!

That is the game changer I talk about, because you then know that different choices will lead to different actions, which will lead to different results – the results you actually want!

That means you can take control of your outcomes, you can grab the steering wheel of your life rather than blaming it all on others.

Something else that’s important to cover, is that when I talk about stop blaming others, it’s also important to stop blaming yourself.

Yes, it can be a shock to take ownership of your current circumstances, to take the responsibility, and it might feel like you need to come down hard on yourself, since you are putting all the blame at your own door – well, it’s important you don’t blame yourself!

Hang on then, am I contradicting myself here? On one hand I’m saying you need to accept where the responsibility really lies, but on the other I’m saying you shouldn’t blame yourself?

Yes, that is what I’m saying, but the critical point is that this concept is all about ‘acceptance’.

Accepting responsibility is not the same as playing the blame game.

It’s not about saying ‘oh it’s all my fault, so I must be useless, I’ll never get anywhere, I might as well give up!’

No, no, no, and I’ll say it again, no!

That’s the opposite of what it’s about. The blame game is playing the negative, whereas I’m all about playing the positive, which is that understanding and taking responsibility for the past means you now know you are taking it on for your future too!

That’s exciting, because it means that what you want in life shifts from being unattainable because of others, to being attainable because of you.

That’s why I call it a game changer, and I hope you agree!

Keep Smiling!

History Was Made Today

So, today was a really big deal over here in my country, the United Kingdom, or Great Britain as some of you will know it by. It was a day that will go down in history.

history win

A few (million) idiots voted us out of the European Union, a market of 500 million people and our biggest trading partner.

Already our currency, the pound, has tanked, dropping to it’s lowest level since I was a boy.

history

The saddest part for me – as a proud Scot – was that Scotland as a nation voted to remain in the EU. But because we are only 5 million strong and England is ten times our size, we’ve still been voted out along with the other members of the United Kingdom.

But I’m not going to despair. Despite the fact that right now my country is less safe, less wealthy (billions wiped of the stock market today) and less democratic, I know it will bounce back. Defeat is only temporary and our great nation will emerge from all of this possibly stronger.

After all, change is usually positive and often leads to great improvements.

But, in any case –

It serves as a fantastic example of why you need to control your own destiny and write your own history.

You all need a Plan B because ‘The Man’ ain’t always going to play ball with you.

I like to think strategically. Okay so the pound dropped like a stone today – but the value of gold shot up massively. And I’ve had a gold bullion account for a few years. So in actual fact I have made money today.

history

Also I don’t have to work for anyone else. So the economic volatility that may ensue over the next few years won’t affect me or my income too much.

So, I strongly urge you all to grasp your future with both hands and don’t rely on the ‘wisdom’ of others to look after you.

This link will take you to an online platform that might just save you next time.

After all, there’s a big election in November right? Who’s to say what will happen then? Be in control and take that niggling worry out of the equation.

And just keep telling yourself this;

It’s not over until I win

Keep Smiling!

Crazy Naked? Yes, It’s All True…

crazy

People do crazy things to get our attention in business these days, right?

Hot air balloons, funny commercials, crazy give-aways, naked pictures…

Yes! You read that correctly!

What’s the most crazy thing you’ve ever done in your business?

For me – it flat out HAS to be when I agreed for my award-winning gym business to be the first month in a naked calendar shoot to raise money for local charities!

We were a brand new virtually unknown business at that time and struggling to make our presence felt in the town. There had been nothing quite like us for 100 miles in any direction and I knew that the publicity gained by doing the calendar would be extremely valuable.

But by being the month of January, we would be the first shocking picture that the poor people of the town would see. Our picture would have the greatest impact and get talked about the most.

Most of my female staff had been too embarrassed (read sensible…) to take part but luckily a couple of members agreed to help us out and together with two of my guys we had enough people to make an interesting picture. To show willing of course, as the CEO, I had to also be in the picture.

Looking back, we were lucky for a number of reasons:

  • We had a few weeks to get buffed and (fake) tanned – this was Scotland in the winter remember
  • It was just before the advent of Social Media so no internet evidence exists
  • It was cold so there wasn’t much to see…

All in all it was a huge success and many businesses responded enthusiastically to the cause and our local charities benefited enormously.

And for my business?

Well we increased our membership tremendously and it wasn’t too long before we were voted Business of the Year!

So – Would I do the same again today?

Ha! With the advent of Social Media and the power of the internet in all our lives, it’s obvious that a crazy stunt can have a huge impact on the success of a business.

As a  prime example look at the stories surround the Kardashian girl who reputedly ‘broke’ the internet due to the viral traffic caused by her posting nude photos of her *ss!

So it’s much easier to make a splash these days, right?

Yes and no. ( A typical Scottish reply!)

The problem today is that yes it’s easy to do but the downside is that everyone is doing it.

Being crazy on Social Media is just a daily occurrence these days.

And what’s REALLY CRAZY is that many marketers are still

running their businesses like it’s 2006!

The world is a hugely different place since I bared my all on a calendar shoot!

crazy smile girl

If your business isn’t harnessing the enormous power of the social media platforms and all the internet technology available today then it will not thrive or even survive.

I was lucky one more time because as I began my online adventures I was quick to find the awesome marketers who helped propel me to the top of leader boards and the first page of Google in my first year of trying.

I recently bought my wife her dream ocean-side house and we paid for it in cash.

So stop wasting precious time and money with out-of-date marketing tactics and let the internet work for you not against you.

You’d have to be crazy not to try this – butt-naked crazy!

If you found this useful then please share with a colleague or team-mate!

Keep smiling!
